Athletics Whangarei Report 2019  3Pigs and Piglet 2019

What an awesome w/e!

Thankfully in spite of a horrble weather forecast the days turned out ideal for running -the odd shower or two some sun and very little wind.

More entries than we have ever had before – the word is getting out.

Thank you to all of you who came to take on the Pig Challenge for yet another year.

To all of you who come back year after year to test yourselves against the hills in the forest- Thank you for telling your friends about it!!

To those who have come along once and found the very thought of returning was all too much...and to those who the damn pigs got the better of you this year …well I hope you had fun.

Without the willingness of the Forest Managers, which is privately run, we would not be able to hold the event.

Sorry about the loos malfunctioning – but as with all things a bucket and water solved the problem- and to the runner who said the gorse bushes are not user friendly..... tough deal with it!!!

Hope you enjoyed the soup provided by our wonderful team of cooks (all club members) – a great selection. Pig Cakes once again made by one of our club members – Delicious and creative.

The winner of the Major Spot prize (2 night stay at Copthorne Bay of Islands including dinner & breakfast) was Scott Kennedy – hope you relax & enjoy. Thanks must go to the club members who donated this and wish to remain annonymous..

Last but not least to all our volunteers who helped all w/e some who come back year after year & give their time willingly and love doing this. To all those members who went out of their way and approached local retailers for spot prizes please support them.Without all of this these events do not happen.

The inaugural Piglet event was a great success- this was held on the sunday and we had 43 kids age from 4 to 12yrs. They all received piggy finishers medals.

It was just awesome to see these  young ones smiling and having lots of fun-The pigs tails(aka snakes) were enjoyed by all but the really competitive.

Thanks to the parents that gave us all the positive feedback - till next year

The winners: Athan Thompson(first male) and Kaleigh Soper(first female) received a Trophy and a winners certificate plus piggy medal.

The oldest competitor was Sien Van der Veeken age 86 who completed the half marathon.

The youngest in the 2 day marathon Beastly Pig was Maya Harold age 17

The youngest piglet - Milo Davis age 4.

Results are completed manually & take time, a team effort & patience so thank you for waiting.

Story of the day goes to Michelle Cameron who is a walker and some how missed the early start of the half she started at the normal time and still managed to achieve a great time. Michelle was our fastest walker of the day.

Lost property:

a soft red Possum scrf

a black “dirty dog” beanie with a red stripe

a yellow drink bottle

A L North Shore Marathon/1/2 Tshirt

A grey t-shirt – Nike Dryfit Small.

Its all over for another year.

Thank you all for your very positive feedback – (if you have any more please dont hesitate to relay this and/or if you want the event to continue- (oringabrian72@gmail.com)
